Reception set for Harrisville gallery Artist of the Month

HARRISVILLE – Dragonfly Art Gallery in Harrisville plans a reception Saturday from 2-4 p.m. for its Artist of the Month, Kathleen Davis. The reception is scheduled to coincide with the annual Christmas in the Village festivities.

Artwork by Davis, who loves using bright colors, different patterns and textures, will be on exhibit throughout the month of December.

Davis studied art and philosophy at the University of West Florida. Favorite mediums include acrylics, collage, mixed media and photography.

“I am influenced by the artwork of Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollack, Pablo Picasso and Joseph Cornell, to name a few,” Davis said. “Lights and light fixtures, doors, trees, buildings, shadows and windows are a few of my favorite subjects to photograph. Every photograph has its own unique story.”

She also enjoys finding beauty in the mundane, less noticeable objects that surround people on a daily basis. Her photography has been included in the Arnie Hart Juried Student Art Exhibition at Okaloosa-Walton College in Northwest Florida. Three of her pieces were chosen for the show, with “Splintered” receiving a Merit Award.

Davis grew up in northwest Indiana and moved to Florida after graduating from high school. She currently resides in Greenbush.
