VFW Auxiliary, Post observe Veterans Day at Sanborn School

The November meeting of William F. Moore VFW Post #6754 Auxiliary was held with six members present. Members were advised of the Veterans Day Program at Sanborn School held Nov. 10.

It was attended by auxiliary members Norma Alstrom, Karen Alstrom, Susan Alstrom, Kathy Vichunas and Frances Ziesman as well as post members Chuck Gauthier, Al Vichunas and Mike Scott.

Students from second through fifth grades participated in the program. The first graders presented special gifts to the veterans and their guests. SMSgt. John Kozlowski gave the Veterans Day message.

Al Vichunas, VFW Post #6754 adjutant and a Vietnam veteran, presented a U.S. flag to the principal, Mrs. Burnham, on behalf of the post. George Redlawsk played “Taps” at the end of the program.

A special thank you goes out to all the teachers and their assistants who helped the students put on the 2017 Veterans Day Assembly. All veterans and guests were invited to participate in a reception following the program.

In other business, due to the secretary’s absence, President Kathy Vichunas read the minutes/notes from the previous meeting. Sandy Light provided the treasurer’s report and advised that only two members have not yet paid their dues.

The auxiliary purchased two VOD tickets and bills were paid.

Vichunas read a note from Kathy Carriveau regarding her inability to continue as the auxiliary secretary due to health concerns. The audit report was read and members were advised that the report had been submitted.

For the good of the order, Norma Alstrom reviewed an article from the recent auxiliary magazine regarding the need to help veterans and their families as well as senior members of the community during the holiday season.
