Alpena County Library hosting program on notorious murder

Alpena County Library’s Special Collections Department will present a program Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. on The Murder of Albert Molitor. This notorious figure, the rumored illegitimate son of a German king and prominent in establishing Presque Isle County and Rogers City, was shot and killed on a summer night in 1875. The murder remained unsolved for 16 years until a shooter confessed in 1891 and implemented 14 others, including business competitor Hermann Hoeft.

Mark Thompson, executive director of the Presque Isle County Historical Museum, will tell the complex story of “King” Molitor, his murder and the Alpena trial of the shooters. It will be up to the audience to decide whether justice was served.
