VFW Auxiliary gets 14 membership requests
The September regular meeting of VFW 2496 Auxiliary was presided over by President Gloria Plater. There were 11 members present.
Seven new applications for membership were received. Minutes from the August meeting were read and accepted. The treasurer’s report was given and approved subject to audit.
Several bills were presented and paid by the treasurer. After a discussion, members opted to increase annual dues by $5, changing the amount for new members to $35 and renewals to $30.
The bingo report was given by Barb Truman and a donation of $500 was received.
The charter was draped for three deceased members of the Auxiliary. A gift certificate in appreciation for the District President was purchased.
Dixie Weiler reported that she has given information for this year’s Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy essay competitions to the schools. It will allow students the opportunity to earn scholarship money.
It was reported that the gutters, flashing and underground drainage system has been completed on the front of the Post building.
An update on the upcoming Polish dinner/dance to be held on Oct. 7, with proceeds going to purchase coats for children, was given and sign-up sheets for volunteers were posted in the building. A request was made to use the hall on Oct. 23 to host a Halloween party for the special friends group.
A donation of $100 to cover expenses was also made. Plater thanked the members who participated in Hillman VJ Day.
Closing ceremonies were conducted and the meeting was adjourned by Plater. The next meeting is set for Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
