Smoke & Music on the River kicks off new TBAC season

Thunder Bay Arts Council kicks off its 2017-18 event season by going hog wild. “Smoke and Music on the River,” a pig roast and night of entertainment by the band Music For You at Fletcher Street Depot on Oct. 21 begins a season filled with merriment, high jinks and much culture.

“The community is invited to purchase a $50 TBArts Pass and take part in seven ticketed events valued at over $105, or purchase individual event tickets at two for $25 when purchased prior to events or $15 at the door,” said newly-elected TBAC President Monte Jahnke.

Jahnke also said that in addition to the barbecue on the river, there will be Spring and Holiday Community Chorus concerts, a Grand Rapids guitar quartet, jazz musicians from Western Michigan University, the always well-attended Guitar Summit, Holocaust story teller Judy Sima and by popular request, part two of “Songs of the Woodman, Collecting Feathers” with Allan James Grund and Friends.

“All this and Art on the Bay as well make for an exciting season,” Jahnke said.

TBArts Pass and individual event tickets currently are on sale at the TBAC office, online and at Neiman’s Family Market.

Two tickets (an event ticket or an ARTs Pass), plus a $12 dinner ticket, are required for “Smoke and Music on the River” which begins with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by entertainment from 7-9:30 p.m. This is barbecue smoked pork with all the trimmings of potato salad, cowboy baked beans, corn on the cob, dinner/slider roll, apple cobbler and coffee or tea included. No tip is required and there will be a cash bar.

“There is limited seating for the pig roast dinner,” said program committee member Jodene Compton. “People will want to get their tickets soon and not miss out on the fun. It’s worth the price of the ticket to see the gorgeous, newly renovated Fletcher Street Depot and hear the musicians of Music For You starring Greg Altman (John Denver of the north) and Donny Grabiel on that fiddle. For additional fun, t-shirts and sweatshirts with the ‘Smoke and Music on the River’ pig logo are available online.”
