MOC Auxiliary conducts meeting

The regular meeting of the MOC Auxiliary was held Sept. 19 with seven members in attendance.

Scholarship Chairman Barb LaMay read a letter of thanks from Alpena Community College for an auxiliary donation to the scholarship fund. Dixie Wieler reported that one of the past recipients of the scholarship was at the age of 41 employed by the University of Michigan and teaching in Alpena. Members enjoyed hearing of the success.

Betty Olsen gave a report on the annual “Scratch” held Sept. 9 at the VFW Hall. There were 27 dinners served and a successful raffle held, making for a comfortable profit. She reported that the Grand of Michigan is pleased with the auxiliary’s efforts.

Certificates of accomplishment were given to Barb LaMay for Scholarship, Betty Olsen for her work with the VFW National Home and Roxann Buchler for the Supreme President’s Special Project.

Motions were made to donate to the VFW National Home’s annual Children’s Christmas Party and to support the Post by helping with payment to the Workmen’s Comp policy covering anyone who works at the post. The Supreme sent 30 raffle tickets and the membership agreed to purchase them.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 17. Every member is encouraged to attend. If any VFW Auxiliary member in good standing is interested in joining, contact President Roxann Buchler.

The goody bags were won by Margaret Piontkowski and Patty Kucharek. The 50/50 raffle was won by Dixie Wieler and Kathleen Wolshon’s name was drawn for the “pot.”
