Church retreat on ‘Enneagram and Mystics’ slated Saturday

Join First Congregational United Church of Christ and Infinity Church as they welcome guest speakers Nancy Irish of Marquette and Rev. Kayle Rice of Kalamazoo for a free full-day retreat on Saturday entitled “The Enneagram and Mystics.”

Rice will present “Meet the Mystics: An Exploration of the Inner Life.” In a small group format, participants will explore three individuals: Rumi, a Sufi mystic; Teresa of Avila, a Christian mystic; and Cynthia Bourgeault, a modern day contemplative mystic, all who have centered their lives on the Divine.

Participants also will take a brief look at their lives and work, share and meditate on pieces of their writings, and then share personal insights and stories.

In the afternoon session, Irish will head up “Engaging the Enneagram,” which is a system for understanding the patterns of personality humans develop in response to their genetic makeup and childhood experiences, and for finding their way back to their truest nature.

With deep enthusiasm and a dash of vulnerability, Irish will officially begin her emerging practice as a teacher of the Enneagram with those attending the retreat.

The program runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a simple lunch provided. Pre-registration is necessary. Contact the church at 356-1795.
