AHS Class of 1972 holds 45th reunion

Alpena High School Class of 1972 held a 45-year reunion over the July 1 weekend. The celebration included several activities throughout the weekend starting with an evening bonfire at the home of class members Darryl and Mary (Schultz) McQuarrie on June 30. About 35 class members attended the bonfire with instrumentals provided by classmates Dick LaLonde and Mike Kapala.

On the morning of July 1, several classmates attended a golf outing organized by Don Krajnik prior to attending a buffet-style dinner celebration at Knights of Columbus Hall. The dinner was attended by 150 class members and guests.

Cynthia (Kieliszewski) Domrase, reunion committee chairperson, created a memorial tribute display to deceased class members in addition to leading the reunion organizational meetings.

During the dinner, reunion organizers raffled a wood-carving by artist Terry Matzke. Terry, who passed away in 2016, created the carving from an Anamakee sketch done by Nancie (Gapczynski) Skevington for the 1972 yearbook.

Mick Garant was the recipient of the “Cat” carving commemorating the 45-year anniversary celebration.
