Youth theater ‘Godspell’ auditions announced
Rogers City Community Youth Theatre announces open auditions for its summer event, “Godspell, Jr.”
Roles are available for principle characters and ensemble cast members for this musical presentation of the themes of love, tolerance and building a community.
Actors ages 8-17 are invited to showcase individual talents of singing, dancing as well as pantomime, charades, acrobatics, vaudeville, folk and rock. Opportunities are also available to simply be on stage and look cute. The production is being directed by Theresa Gibson.
A pre-audition workshop to familiarize actors with the music, reading selections and audition process will be offered on June 19 from 1-4 p.m. This is available to anyone considering the audition but it is not required to attend.
Auditions will be held at the Rogers City Theatre, 257 N. Third, on June 20-21 from 1-4 p.m. Actors do not need to be present both days. Alternative arrangements can be negotiated for families who have conflicts on those days.
The first read-through will be on June 22 from 2-5 p.m. Regular rehearsals will begin June 26 and are generally held Monday-Friday from 2-5 p.m.
Additionally, workshop sessions facilitated by theater professionals from Chicago will be offered to cast members June 23-24 from 1-4 p.m. and June 25 from 1-3 p.m. There will be a special opportunity to perform one or two of the numbers learned in the workshop during the Sunday evening performance on June 25 at 6 p.m. This would be in conjunction with a concert featuring songs from Broadway presented by the workshop leaders: Michael Idalski, Caitlyn Cerza and Tyler Kivel.
Conceived and originally directed by John Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, “Godspell” is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time. It was the winner of a 1977 Tony Award for Best Original Score Written for the Theatre and garnered Schwartz two Grammy Awards.
Performances will be Aug. 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 20 at 2 p.m.
“Godspell Jr.” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
