Lutheran Women’s Missionary League reports on activities

omen who are members of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of Immanuel Lutheran Church recently met for their final meeting before the summer break. The opening devotion was given by Lisa Kendziorski, followed by a Bible Study titled, “Looking for God Goggles” led by Judy Hoch.

After Marilyn Frank reported on the balance in the Luebke Student Aid Fund, members were told that $1000 will be given to Rosa Gonzales, who is studying at Concordia University in Seward, Neb.

Thank-you notes were distributed from students who received college care packages in March.

Mission projects chosen for the 2017-18 year include school kits for Lutheran World Relief in September, Lutheran Heritage Foundation, Teen MOPS, college care packages, and support for Rev. David and Joyce Erber who are the adopted missionary couple still serving in Ghana, West Africa.

Gerri Nelson will be the delegate from the Sonshine Zone to the National LWML Convention to be held in Albuquerque, N.M. from June 22-25. This convention will celebrate the75th diamond anniversary of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League which began in Chicago in 1942. The National Mite Goal of $2,000,000 was reached and even exceeded. New mission projects will be selected for the next biennium at this convention.

The Christian Growth Committee explained the making of hygiene kits for women in Sudan. Members brought underwear for the kits as well as some monetary donations. Notes were also written congratulating members of the Alpena High School Class of 2017 from Immanuel.

A report was given from the Sonshine Zone Spring Rally held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ossineke on April 22. Shown there was a video concerning mental illness as well as guests who told of the need for acceptance by society to include all as God’s children.

A district-wide project titled “Ready, Set, Recycle” was explained for printer cartridges, etc which will serve as a fundraiser for the next National LWML convention in Lexington, Ky. in 2021. A society facilitator is needed who will help promote and publicize this project locally.

Serving on the refreshment committee were Bev Hiske, Judy Hoch, Pam White and Janet Winfield. Summer birthdays were also recognized.
