Volunteers assist Habitat at Saturday Service Day
Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan recently completed its first monthly Saturday Service Day. Work took place at the latest house Habitat is building at 2670 Long Lake Avenue in Alpena.
“We are welcoming and encouraging those from Alpena, Alcona and Presque Isle counties to come together and serve on the building of these future homes,” said Colin Bruning, volunteer coordinator at Habitat.
Bruning said there are many benefits to serving with others at a Habitat house.
“When you partner with Habitat you really are building into the community because you’re building into the lives of families who will eventually become the homeowners,” Bruning said. “Habitat affords people the opportunity to become a homeowner through a process where they become highly involved in the work and mission of what we do.”
Bruning also said serving through Habitat gives people the opportunity to “love your neighbor as you would yourself.
“We know this has the potential to impact lives and that is what we want,” he said. “We want to cultivate these opportunities where people can join in a mission that is purposeful and rooted in love. Bringing people together is part of our mission, and we are seeing that happen more and more.”
Saturday Work Days are held monthly and take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or noon-4 p.m. For more information about Habitat or to volunteer, call Bruning at 354-5555.
